Search Schriever Air Force Base Communities Schriever Air Force Base is located approximately ten miles east of Colorado Springs. Established in the mid-1980s as Falcon Air Force Station, it was renamed Schriever Air Force Base in honor of General Bernard Schriever in June, 1998. This was the first base named after a living individual. General Schriever has been referred to as the father of our nation’s space and missile forces. Among the amenities located on base are a commissary, base exchange, Child Development Center, Ent Federal Credit Union, an aquatics center, youth center, fitness center, a service station, a library and a golf course. Colorado Springs is also home to the Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Force Base, Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and Fort Carson Army Post. Colorado Springs, established in 1871, is located at the base of Pikes Peak. It is at an altitude of 6,035 feet, so it may take some time to adjust to the elevation. Because of its mild, semi-arid climate, it has endless opportunities for recreational and sporting activities year round. |
